This traditional legume is still cultivated at the foot of the hills where the village of Paciano is situated, overlooking Lake Trasimeno. La Fagiolina, or Little Bean as it is called in Italian, arrived at Lake Trasimeno in Etruscan times, as a result of contemporary trade with Africa. The fact that this is the only area in Europe where it can be cultivated is only one of its fascinating particularities.
